day 5

Things were going well but the long absences of g-pa and g-ma I was getting tired of staying in the office. Mocca was out and free...why not me. Got a little bored and found out scratching at the do or and carpet didn't make them happy. Also found a few cords and things in the room to keep me entertained but ended up pulling a huge printer-thing down that they weren't happy about either. The longer big bed privileges taken away and...now they have a cage (they call it a crate) I had to sleep in last night. Tried my whimpering...but he didn't seem to cave. Wasn't too bad, though. Still got to spend time in the big bed in the morning. But when they left again...the "crate" was a little confining. One ball and one chewy rope toy is not enough to keep me entertained! Thought I'd take my frustration out on the cushion in the "crate." I guess they weren't happy about that either...now I see g-pa searching the internet for some answers. He'll learn...I'll learn...time is a great teacher...so I hear!

  1. Oh ya--I forgot to tell you! The terriers love to chew wires. We lost a few electronics with Sophie the first few months...we were just happy that she didn't get electrocuted! Just make sure you're consistent in the beginning. The crate will be tough, he will scratch, chew, pee, poop, etc. but stay consistent! Also--did they tell you that you should get a crate that's only big enough for him to stand up, turn around, and lay down? If it's too big, they won't feel secure (i know it sounds counter-intuitive). Let us know if you have any questions! Also I recommend going to training classes at Petsmart or PetCo--they're cheap and better to do as a puppy.

  2. That's one reason why we got the cage...because the office is full of wires. He was also scratching at the carpet near the door and making a mess. The size we got was what they suggested. He mentioned it not being large enough to tolerate a mess in the corner and sleeping in the other...so thus...the size they suggested. So far...we haven't had any problems. He seems to be holding it and doing it when he gets out. I think we showed you the leaflet we got from Petsmart on the classes...I hope they can coincide with my schedule...but sounds like it would be a good thing.
